Oughterard Enterprise Town

Home
Oughterard hosted the Bank of Ireland ‘Enterprise Town’ event on March 27th and 28th at the national school in Oughterard. The theme of the Enterprise Town was ‘Discover Oughterard’ and included a business expo on Friday, with a sports and community expo taking place on Saturday 28th. The aim of the event was to foster links within the local business and promote local businesses, while showcasing all that the town has to offer.

The event was a resounding success and both days were very well attended. The range and variety of exhibitors made it one of the most unique Enterprise Town events hosted by Bank of Ireland to date!
Both days featured prominent business and sporting personalities including Pádraig Ó Céidigh, Brett Wilkinson from Connacht Rugby, Kerry All-Ireland winning captain Declan O’Sullivan, David Hickey CEO Connacht Tribune and Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council, Cllr. Mary Hoade.

The keynote speakers delivered very relevant, interesting and engaging talks on topics as diverse as attracting and retaining tourism, entrepreneurship and how to thrive in business in the current climate in rural Ireland.
Charismatic business veteran Pádraig Ó’Céidigh held a captivated audience and imparted some deep personal insights and pearls of business wisdom in his characteristically engaging manner.
The local businesses involved in the tourism industry were give plenty to consider by Marie Donoghoe from the Coach Tourism Transport Council of Ireland. The Discover Oughterard Committee, who were instrumental in organising the two day event
with Bank of Ireland, will follow up on the points and ideas raised by Marie during her keynote speech.

The Business Expo was brought to a close with the launch of the Discover Oughterard website by Cathaoirleach Cllr. Mary Hoade. This was a fitting end to the first day of the expo as the website will continue to provide a networking point for all the local businesses in the village and the surrounding areas.

Commenting on the initiative, Liam Doyle, Oughterard Branch Manager, said “The Bank has been an active participant in the Oughterard community for a very long time and our future success is intrinsically linked with the success of the local community.” He concluded, “We were delighted with the response from the local community and look forward to strengthening our relationship in the years to come.”
Following the success of the event, the Discover Oughterard Committee hope to stage the event again next year.
